Celebrating Pride Month

Happy Pride! We partnered with the city of Beverly Hills to create an unforgettable evening of good music and vibrant energy during this year’s Pride Night that brought all the feels. We were thrilled to feature performances by Yancy Abril and boyish, two of our LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Awardees, who performed prideful tunes for everyone to sing along to. Here’s some photos from the event!

During the event, we spoke with attendees and Music Forward staff about Pride. The responses all had a common theme and truly captured the essence of the night.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

“The advice I would give my younger self is to just be me. I would always try so hard to be somebody that I wasn’t and try to be cool, but I was already who I am and I was already cool as I was. So I would definitely tell her to just be you, as corny as that sounds, and live your truth.”

“Do not be afraid of change in any direction.”

“You’re going to feel happiness, but you might also feel sadness and that does not invalidate your happiness. Just accept life in its fully encompassing nature to my younger self.”

“Life is short. We’re here for a good time, not a long time. Don’t worry about other people. Think of you.”

“Don’t worry so much about what people think of you. As long as you feel good about yourself, that’s what matters the most.”

“Don’t be afraid to try new things. That’s where that’s where the fun is.”

“Keep going, keep pushing, keep persevering.”

This Pride, we ask you all to embrace the common theme between all of these responses – don’t be afraid to be who you are and live your truth. We also asked everyone for their go-to pride song.
