Blues SchoolHouse Spring 2024

Blues SchoolHouse rocked House of Blues Boston this Spring for over one thousand students!

Blues Schoolhouse is an interactive, live musical presentation that traces the history of the blues from its roots in African musical traditions through its emergence into the music we hear today. We have been putting on this show for young people since Music Forward started in 1993. This year, over 1,000 students and 160 educators got to see how people use music to tell their stories, preserve their memories, and create a sense of community. The program weaves major historical events narrated across an American history timeline and demonstrates how music can reflect social conditions and drive social change. The best part is that it is all brought to life by our phenomenal Blues SchoolHouse band with a fun, interactive, and live show. A huge shoutout to Music Drives Us for helping to support this iconic program in Boston and to Highmark for our upcoming launch at The Met Philadelphia.

Meet the Band

“Being a child who attended the program in its developmental stage, who is now performing in the same program, as a professional musician and entertainer. I can personally attest to how powerful and influential this program is! To see the faces of children light up… most seeing their first ever, CONCERT! It’s an honor and privilege, to have this great responsibility of educating and empowering the next generation of artists and creators!” – Zachary Rochester, Blues School House Bassist
