Emerging artists from the LGBTQ+ community in their 2nd to 10th year of music creation and performance are eligible to apply. All genres will be considered.
The definition of “emerging” is an artist(s) with some track record of creating and performing their music (not beginning artists), and artists who are not at a point in their careers where they receive consistent development and production opportunities, significant recognition, awards, and acclaim (not mid-career or established artists).
Artists must be at least 18 years old at time of application.
The Award will provide 15 emerging LGBTQ+ music artists with $10,000 each to support their creative journeys.
Interested artists will need to complete an application that includes an artist profile and eligibility verification. Music Forward will be accepting requests through Submittable online here.
Music Forward will use application information for internal vetting purposes. Images and quotes may also be used for promotional purposes at Music Forward and with our partnering sponsor. See details on Music Forward’s privacy policy here.
Funds can be used in a variety of ways to support a music project intended to elevate the artist’s craft, visibility, vision, etc. Be prepared to clearly articulate goals for use of the funds as part of the request process. Here is a comprehensive article to assist you in defining your project.
Applications will be accepted and awards will be granted on a rolling basis.
Music Forward will be evaluating submissions based on breadth of work, quality of work, articulation of artist vision/voice and description of use of the Award.
We expect the review to move swiftly but can take 30-60 days. We will do our best to work through applications as quickly as possible and thank you for your patience.
Selected artists may be contacted via e-mail or phone by Music Forward.
Artists from across the globe are invited to apply, dependent on the stated eligibility requirements.
Awarded artists must agree to take part in scheduled media and marketing initiatives during the 2023-2024 calendar year. Additionally, artists must provide project updates at 6 months and one year after receiving the award.
