How it Works

How do I start the apprentice process with Music Forward?

The first step in getting started is to complete the Music Forward inquiry form. The platform will require you to create a free account on Submittable. You will be able to save a draft of your inquiry form so you can work at your own pace to complete and submit the required form. Music Forward will not be able to move you forward in the process until you hit that “submit” button on your form.

I completed the inquiry form. What’s next?

Once you complete the inquiry form you will be contacted by a Music Forward staff member. Music Forward will use the form to assess next steps and invite qualified candidates into a pre-apprentice cohort and determine the supplemental instruction required for your chosen apprentice pathway.

What happens once I am accepted into an apprentice pathway?

Music Forward works with employer partners to assess their hiring needs. Therefore, it may take some time until an open position aligns with your application. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. When an employer request aligns with an application, Music Forward will reach out with the position details and help prepare you for the interview process. You will interview with the employer, and if selected, Music Forward will provide support during the hiring process.

What are the eligibility requirements to become an apprentice?

Currently, apprentice candidates must be a California Resident, between the ages of 18-24, or a veteran, and authorized to work in the US. Candidates must also have foundational knowledge in one of the available career tracks offered through Music Forward’s apprentice program.

Are there any costs associated with the apprentice program?

The program is completely free for applicants! If selected, Music Forward will help cover costs related to the apprenticeship. This can include transportation, software, and additional trainings.

What is the time commitment for an apprentice?

Apprentices in paid on-the-job training programs will be required to work between 30-39 hours per week. Most apprentice pathways will be completed within 6-12 months of on-the-job training. Additional time may be required to complete the 144 hours of RSI (related supplemental instruction) during the apprenticeship.
