Ever wondered what it’s really like to work at a record label? These sessions will give you the behind the scenes glimpse into the various roles that exist across this coveted area of the business and what a “day in the life” looks like for those who work in it everyday – in A&R, marketing, streaming, and publicity!
Utilizing my passion for talent discovery, organization, and interpersonal communication, I serve on the A&R team at Downtown Music Services. While everyday looks different, I am steadfast in my duties of connecting with new talent and their team, evaluating prospects based upon expectations and service offerings, host all team listening sessions, negotiate deals, and ensure support in longevity through maintaining client relationships. Additionally, I aid Downtown Music Services through creating our Atmos Spatial Audio catalog acquisition process, directing events for the employee resource group “Gender Equity Movement”, and organized the first Lofi Writing Camp, flying artists from all over the world to collaborate together at a retreat style mansion in Temecula. I am the boots on the ground, the ear of those on the rise, and the connector of art and commerce.
A self-described “full-time publicist, part-time magician,” Randy Henderson works his magic to help some of music’s biggest names bring their wildest dreams to life. In his current role as the Vice President of Publicity at Interscope Geffen A&M Records, Randy directs the publicity campaigns for multi-platinum, award-winning artists including Machine Gun Kelly, Ari Lennox, Summer Walker, DaBaby, Tierra Whack and Ella Mai.
A 10-year veteran in the publicity world, Randy’s keen eye for detail, natural ease for building relationships and willingness to try new creative approaches – even in the face of rejection – have been instrumental in the success of several artists.
Prior to joining the Interscope team, Randy began his career at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. A front-row seat to the behind-the-scenes workings of talent management and promotion sparked his interest in the world of music business.
Since then, Randy has worked with industry heavyweights including 50 Cent, Diddy, The Pussycat Dolls, Keri Hilson, French Montana and many more. In 2023, he was recognized by XXL for his accomplishments and named an Awards Board Member.
